Surrealism was born from the ideas of Dadaism. Just like Dadaism, Surrealism was interested in ideas, the irrational things. However, Surrealsim believed in the idea of the dream world, believing reality exists in the state of dreams. Surrealism really took it's place in the 1924 when Andre Breton issued the First Surrealist Manifesto. The idea of Surrealism rest upon the dreams, the fantasies, and the obsessive symbols. It seems Surrealism was also interested in the sexual ideas. Most Surrealist artist painted pictures that are dreamlike, and it seems difficult. The idea of painting a dream, is like trying to paint a moving object. A dream is constantly moving and transforming, shifting times. Surrealist artist try to capture those movements, those dreams. People wonder what is surreal or the real in surreal, because the paintings are unique and questinable. Most Surrealist artist believe realism in art is a tricky matter. Picasso stated, "Art is a lie which makes us realize the truth." It is then that Surrealist art is real. Realism can only be found in what the person perceived it as real.
Everything lies in the perception. Surrealism helps define what is real. The fanatasies and the dreams come to a reality state. Things are seen differently, but behind every lie, there lies a truth. Artist like Dali, followed the ideas of Surrealism. Truth
cannot be defined by just what we see or feel. Everything lies in our mind.
