Dada began in 1916; the same time as World War I. "World War I had destroyed many artists' and intellectuals' belief in the light of reason." The result of the war gave no hope for the future. Dada was created by a group of artists, who secretly met for entertainment reasons. They followed the idea of creating a new tradition and eliminating the old. Dada criticized and insulted works of art. Its intention was to abolish old traditions and explore a new meaning in life. Dadaism was not just a style of art, but it was also a protest, a mockery of art. Dada was a step into reality, it was interested in ideas and what is real. It introduced the world to a new style of art and seeing things differently. Though Dada did not reach its primary goal, however Surrealism was able to finish the product.
