Expressionism was the idea of using colors and lines to express
the artist emotions and feelings to the people. German Expressionism
started by a group called "The Bridge and "The Blue Rider." A famous
artist name Wassily Kandinsky was influenced by Monet and felt that
the object is the most important element in a painting. Kandinsky used
vivid colors to express his emotions and feelings through his work of art.
Each line, each stroke, and each painting has a spiritual meaning. He believed
his paintings carried an expressive meaning. He also was influenced by the use
of color. He believed "that through color he could eliminate the object
altogether." Another artist name Franz Marc followed Kandinsky's idea
of the use of color. He also was influenced by Matisse's work of art. He
often drew horses using colorful colors, like blue, red and yellow. Each
color symbolize a meaning. For instance, he believed blue represented strength;
sometimes red and yellow represented strength and masculinity. Everything
depends on his mood. It seems German Expressionism's main emphasis was
emotions. The paintings that were presented during that time used colors
to express the artist feelings, and somehow through these colors, there lies so
much beauty in the paintings.
