Fauvism is a short-lived art movement in the 20th century. The style of Fauvism was inspired by some of the greatest artist of the 19th century. The use of bold vivid colors were inspired by artist like Cezanne and Van Gogh. Fauvism started in 1905 in Paris mostly by young painters. Henri Matisse was the most recognizable Fauvist artist and the head leader. He focused on the use of bold and colorful colors. Matisse felt a sense of freedom in using the colors he selected. For example The Green Stripe emphasized on the complementary colors like blue-violet, red-orange, and green. The rest of the Fauvism followed the same technique as Matisse. Fauves were seen by others as promising a fully abstract art. Though it was a short-lived art movement, but it introduced the 20th century a new style of abstract art.
